Teaching
Statement
"Through
learning a language, we learn about culture.
Through learning about culture, we learn tolerance for others.
Through learning about tolerance, we can hope for peace."
I believe that
language and culture go hand-in-hand, and strive
to teach
one through exposure to the other. Only if one
realizes there is
no right
or wrong, simply different ways of saying
things and doing
things, one
starts to appreciate others.
I
feel that all students should have the opportunity to learn a
world
language. If the teacher is enthusiastic about teaching,
passionate about
his or her own language and culture, and is sensitive to
students'
individualities, the students will sense it
and be motivated. I
want to
make my classes fun, engaging, and effective for students, and
to instill
a love of world languages
and cultures in them. So not only will
they
learn Chinese language and about China, they will also develop a
deep
understanding
of humanity. I like to go beyond textbooks and encourage students to share
their own
experiences and knowledge. This makes
learning
more real and
encourages
participation. I make my classes a learning experience for
everyone,
including the teacher. |
