Teaching
Statement
My
teaching philosophy focuses on the improvement of critical
thinking skills that are
essential for secondary
school and college. In order to achieve academic excellence,
students need to be challenged intellectually.
Teachers should be given greater freedom
in guiding students to
a deeper understanding of subject matter and,
to becoming
responsible adults. |

Curricula and Methodology
A language teacher should teach
students how to listen, speak, read, and write
the target
language as well
as provide abundant opportunities for students to practice
the
language in various situations. A brief overview of the
culture should also be
presented. Understanding and assessing
how students learn is one significant
aspect of
teaching. I believe that an effective curriculum should
integrate lectures
with cooperative learning and
interdisciplinary
activities. Group projects should be
designed to encourage
teamwork. Teaching material should be tailored to
students’
intellectual levels while still providing a challenge.
Classroom Management
One of the problems in contemporary classrooms is that
students are frequently
disrespectful or rude towards
teachers and authorities. It is essential for teachers to
establish effective classroom management without becoming
dreaded dictators.
Teachers and students should respect each
other. It is important that teachers
clearly express
genuine concern toward their students. Building a trustworthy
relationship with students is an important and early
requirement for effective
teaching to occur.
Parental Involvement
I strongly advocate active parental involvement in the
social and academic life
of their children. I believe that
there
is a significant connection between juvenile
crime and a lack of
parental involvement in the academic lives of young
persons.
Regular, in-person communications between parents and
teachers should be
frequent, encouraged, and
required.
Professional Development
It is important for teachers to keep up with the latest
technology that can be
applied to teaching in general and
in their specialty area. Teachers also need to
be aware of
current developments in teaching methods and materials
related to
their specialty area. If teachers continually
sharpen their skills, it is more likely
that students will reap
the benefits. |
