T
eaching Statement
As a foreign language educator, I want to be someone who is going to share the
knowledge of Chinese at the same time polish my quality of teaching. There are
four areas that I value the most and will apply them into my teaching career. First
is to set clear goals to conduct student learning. To carry out knowledge with the
students is important, however, to help the students to apply their new found
knowledge in the future situation is something greater to achieve. Perhaps
resourceful lesson plans, help the students think for themselves, and be flexible
for each student's individual needs are something that I want to carry out in my
teaching career. Second, classroom management is important, because it will
help me to create an environment that promotes safety and fairness. Establishing
and maintaining consistent standards of classroom manner are setting a positive
tone in the classroom also it will help me to setablishing and maintaining good
rapport with students. Third, I will set goals for the class as whole but also set
goals for individual and have good interaction with them. Confucius was one of
our gretest teachers in Chinese history, and he believed that
因材施教 (yin cai
shi jiao, which means to teach students in accordance with their aptitude) is one
of the keys of great teaching. This idea is very much close to Howard Gardner's
Multiple Intelligence theory. Their ideas both have influences eith my career goal,
which is to be more sensitive to different students' needs in learning. Last but not
least, other areas like community and culture are also important parts of learning
a different language. Making connection with the local community should be a part
of the source to student learning. Also building relationships with colleagues and
parents will help me to grow professionally, and parents' involvement will encourage
the parents to have interaction with me and with the students.
