Teaching
Statement
Making
an updated definition of teaching philosophy is probably
challenging
since I didn’t practice teaching
in the past years. However, when I recall my past
experiences of
language teaching/learning, teaching is
aimed at fostering learning.
The goals of teaching are to lead
learning itself to taking place but also facilitate
the
student learning processes as described by the
instructor. Not all students
at the
same age learn identically.
In the same classroom, different students even
respond
differently towards the same instruction. Therefore, it will
be helpful for
the instructor
to understand students’ learning
styles and behaviors by doing a
brief survey or an
investigation in advance the semester starts. As a result, the
instructor is likely to
know how to help students
how to learn. With the
understanding of students learning
behaviors, the instructor can effectively
assist learning
processes and appropriately
amend the learning goals for
students to achieve. He/she can accordingly choose
the
learning materials,
design instruction, implement course,
and even evaluate
students.
Within the
discipline
of language education, the instructor should have the
abilities
to
inspire
students to appreciate the learning of
pronunciation and empower
them to
develop
vocabulary, writing,
and conversation abilities. The end goals are
to
enable
students
to apply the language outside the classroom
environment and
develop student
interests for
life-long learning in this discipline. The profession of
the
instructor has
much
to do with the completeness of the
whole learning process. Regularly attending
workshops
and
conferences provides the instructor with updates
of
the discipline and
helps the instructor
keep abreast with the
changes of new methods
and theories to
ensure the
quality of the
teaching and increase learning effectiveness at
the most. |
