Teaching Statement
I believe in early success in learning a foreign language. It's important to keep students
motivated and to provide students a positive experience in learning a foreign language. I
attempt to keep my students motivated by using lots of visual aids, making the materials
relevant to students' life, changing the duration of each activity based on their attention span,
bringing in reaiia, using digital material and using students' drawings to teach and reinforce
the language and culture. Since there is no one approach or textbook fits all learners, I find
all opportunities to gain myself any knowledge of teaching a foreign language and get familiar
with different approaches and theories of second language acquisition. I believe that by
constant equipping myself with the most current knowledge, I can apply innovative ways
of teaching to address the diverse needs of all my students. I also believe the importance to
maximize the opportunity for students to hear and speak Chinese in the class. I use storytelling,
story reading, Total Physical Response (TPR), visuals and physical activities, songs, rhymes,
chants in my teaching.
